Some general information about fanlistings and Kyou Kara Maou. *spoilers*

What is a fanlisting?
A fanlisting is a gathering or listing of people who share a common and specific interest, such as a sitcom, singer, song, etc. In this case, this is a fanlisting to the relationship between Conrad and Yuuri.

What is Kyou Kara Maou?
Kyou Kara Maou, which is sometimes referred by the fandom as KKM or MaruMa, is the story of an boy named Shibuya Yuuri. As average as he might seem, Yuuri has an incredibly strongle sense of justice which one day gets him into a bit of trouble. Defending his fellow classmate Murata from bullies, Yuuri ends up their target and has his head flushed down the toilet.

However, surprisingly, Yuuri being flushed down the toilet ends him up in another world, where humans and demons clash bitterly over territory and values. Soon after, he finds out that not only is he stuck there, but he's the king of this insane country. And if that wasn't enough to make your head spin, Yuuri gets a rude awakening and lesson on his new country's customs and the way to propose marriage...

Who are Conrad and Yuuri?
Yuuri, in our world, is a normal teenager who's got an incredible sense of justice and a big heart. However, in the country of New Mazoku, he is king with almost unlimited power. He doesn't believe in fighting, and will only attack to defend others. He's very sweet and trusting, if somewhat naive.

Conrad is the second son of the former Maou, Cecilie von Spitzberg, half human and half demon. Kind and warm, Conrad's personality doesn't seem to fit his title of the important army officer he is. However, he can be and is cruel when necessary, and if anything, his swordsmanship proves his deserving of the title. His intent is nothing more than to protect Yuuri and make him happy.

What is their relationship?
Conrad & Yuuri is the not the most canon couple in the series--Yuuri is engaged to Wolfram through a minor mishap--but in just as many ways they are. Because it is so the effects of their relationship are so subtle, they can be interrupted as mere friendship, though I doubt that's the case. However, it makes them even more sweet.

Conrad and Yuuri, in the most basic terms, are friends. This notion, however, covers very little of their actual relationship. First thing is that Conrad is the one who named Yuuri. He helped Yuuri's mother on the way to the hospital and casually dropped the word Yuuri meaning July, and thus, his mother dubbed that name upon him. Yuuri also has the same soul as Julia, a person who was very dear to Conrad that had died. Conrad and Julia's relationship is somewhat unclear at the moment, but there are hints that they might've been in love, despite Julia being engaged to someone else.

Conrad is one of the first people Yuuri meets in this new world, and also the first person who really talks to him. Conrad, having been to Yuuri's world, is also the person who perhaps best understands him in this strange and new place. Yuuri is fond of baseball, so Conrad often plays catch with him, something that is special between the two of them. Being polite, Conrad always refers to Yuuri as "heika" (Your Majesty), but Yuuri always good-willing corrects him every time and tells him to call him Yuuri, Conrad being the one who named him. Note that Conrad is only one of many of Yuuri's subjects, and he is the only one who is Yuuri ever tells to call by his name. If that's not special, what is? There are so many canon little details that are hard to cover about them.

Conrad also fearlessly protects Yuuri, even at the cost of his arm, and if necessary as he's said many times, his life. After Conrad looses his arm saving Yuuri, he is told by the Original King to join the side of Big Shimaron--right against Yuuri. Conrad is hesitant, but follows through anyway, because he is told that this is to help Yuuri's dream of peace. Friendship or whatever they have, I think it's more the deserving of some note that Conrad is willing to sacrifice his entire relationship with Yuuri for something he never might be thanked for. And during the whole time that Conrad was on the other side, he never looses faith that Conrad will return to him...

I can't convince you they're a couple, but their friendship deserves some note, doesn't it? And if Yuuri is the king, then Conrad would definately be a knight in shining armor.

B-but Yuuri and Wolfram are engaged! Conrad would totally not do that! Wolfram and Yuuri are so -canon-!
Well, I have my own thoughts about that, but this rants/essay has managed to communicate everything I wanted to say, so please read that instead. =)

Why a fanlisting for them?
You know, I was one of those geeky fangirls that noticed how obvious ConYuu was from the first episode of MaruMa. You don't have to believe me, but from when Yuuri and Conrad first stare at each other, and Yuuri innocently asks him, "Who are you...?" I knew this was going to be my OTP for the series. I cannot tell you how devastated I was when I found out that Yuuri ended up engaged to Wolfram and thought for months I was the only fangirl who saw how canon ConYuu was while the rest of the fandom oogled over YuuRam.

This fanlisting has been passed around a lot the past year--if I'm right, I'm the third person who's been approved for it. I know that this pairing is underloved, but I felt it deserved some sort of stable home and took it upon myself to give it to them. It was the least I could do, especially since I love them so much.

Why the name "An Almost Fairy Tale"?
Well, first of all, you should probably know my beloved finacée lovingly informed me that she would've eaten me if I named it "A Sorta Fairy Tale," which I had no intention of doing. Yuuri is the king of New Mazoku, which gives it a sort of fairy tale-like feeling. However, if you notice, ConYuu isn't a very fairy tale-like couple; first of all, they're both guys. Not that there's anything wrong with that... But also, Yuuri isn't a helpless damsel in distress. Though Conrad protects him, Yuuri is quite capable of taking care of himself, and even defeats some of the opponents that Conrad cannot. They have a warm, fuzzy friendship air to them, which most fairy tale couples do not. Thus, Conrad and Yuuri's relationship isn't quite a fairy tale, but it's almost like one, right?
