What is a fanlisting?
A fanlisting is a gathering or listing of people who share a common and specific interest, such as a sitcom, singer, song, etc. In this case, this is a fanlisting to the relationship between Yoru and Ran.
What is Sukina Mono wa Suki Dakara Shoganai?
First off, Sukina Mono wa Suki Dakara Shoganai is way too long of a name, isn't it? A majority of fans refer to the series either as Sukisho (which I prefer) or Sukisyo.
The series was originally made as BL game made by Platinum Label. The game is spread over four volumes, First Limit, Target Nights, Rain, and White Flower. Currently the series includes an on-going anime, a one-shot manga, anthologies, and many Drama and Audio CDs.
One day, Sora, Sukisho's main character, falls out of a window in school. When he returns home after being released from the hospital, he meets Sunao, a childhood friend he can't seem to remember. Soon after, he and Sunao are drafted by their other friend Matsurei into the "Do-It-All" group, which does various jobs around the school. It is through these jobs and the strange incidences around them that they slowly find out more and more about their connected pasts.
Who are Yoru and Ran?
Yoru and Ran are the alter-egos of Sora and Sunao, respectively. Ran is pink-haired guy who is somewhat sensual, but very likable. Yoru is the taller one with purple-blue hair and a bit more enigmatic (and sex-driven) than Ran, though they both are intriguing in their own ways.
Though I still see them as different people than Sora and Nao (think Yue and Yukito from CCS), Yoru and Ran, in all techinicality, are just different levels of subconsiousness for the two, though that is an opinion-related thought. They were by the "real" Sora and Nao to endure the cruel experiments imposed on them when they were imprisoned in the lab.
Yoru's eyes are different from Sora's in that his right is pale blue and left is yellow while Sora's are just pure blue. Ran's difference is less subtle. His eyes are bright red whereas Sunao's are a pale pink.
Yoru and Ran tend to be a little more mature than their counterparts (interupt that however you want). There also seems to be a creepy paranormal aura around both of them. But suppose that's what makes them intriguing.
What is their relationship?
Well, we know first. They're a very attached and... physical couple. They've obviously been through quite a lot together, which is why they care for each other so much. Ran even mentions in an episode that he's Yoru's most important posession, which Yoru obviously agrees with, but I have the feeling vice versa applies.
As stated about, by the end of Sukisho, we find out that Yoru and Ran are not actually -real- people, but just parts of Sora and Sunao. Maybe in purest terms, they are the epitome of affection between their hosts. Yoru and Ran seem to love sex maybe more than they love each other, but when it boils down, I think that sex is just part of their true emotions. (But who doesn't love sex? Or at least sexy guys having sex? XD)
At the last scene, Yoru and Ran get one last glance at each other before they disappear. Why? Because Sora and Sunao don't need them anymore. But the expressions they had...you could tell how much they truly did love each other. Maybe there is no happily ever after for them, but their love for each other is forever.
Why a fanlisting for them?
Yoru and Ran are an extremely affectionate and devoted couple, but there's just that mysterious edge that makes them interesting. Though the -are- extremely sappy, lovely-dovey, etc. they have that erm... matureness about them that sets apart from say, Tamahome and Miaka. Their devotion to each other seems to have a deeper base and what binds them together is absolutely fascinating. Plus, they're sexy together. XD
Why the name "Far Off"?
I wasn't quite sure what to name this fanlisting, but for some reason, I thought of this and it stuck to my mind. I asked a few friends what they thought, and they all liked it so I kept it.
The idealism behind it is that Yoru and Ran's lives are far from perfect. But I've always gotten the sense that far off in the future, it was going to get better for them. And the not too far away, they could reach their goal of happiness. Maybe it's pure idealism, but I like embracing it.
